Good luck to the Great Britain wheelchair rugby squad who tip-off their WWR European Championship 2025 campaign today (April 23) against Poland.
Taking place at the Sportcampus Zuiderpark in The Hague, the competition will host the top eight wheelchair rugby teams in Europe - Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Poland, and Czech Republic.
Wheelchair rugby is a spectacular and fast-paced team sport designed for athletes with disabilities of arms and legs that combines elements of rugby, basketball and ice hockey and is known for its physical intensity and strategic depth. In wheelchair rugby, two teams of four players each compete against each other.
The players use special sports wheelchairs designed for speed and agility. The goal is simple: bring the ball, a modified volleyball, across the opponent's goal line.
This year’s championships also serve as a key stepping stone for teams aiming to qualify for the 2026 WWR World Championships, which will be hosted by Brazil.
